An Analytical Study of the Synonyms of Tasreef

Abstract

The Holy Quran conveys its message to the reader in different artistic ways. Tasreef e Ayat is one of the unique features of the Holy Quran in which the recurrence of a specific topic, verse, or word is expressed in diversified ways. This style is prominent in the Quranic Text which exhibits that the word of Allah is the miracle in its style, eloquence, linguistics and other literary aspects. This article is a rhetorical study of some of the terms that are mentioned in the books of Tafasir and Sciences of the Holy Quran for its repetitive style. This article identifies that the term used for the repetition of the Quranic Text is Tasreef. Opinion of different scholars regarding the repetitive nature of different topics and verses is also demonstrated by giving the references of the classical and contemporary literature. Most of the Islamic scholars used different terms for Tasreef i.e Takrar, Tashabu, Tafannan, Tardad and Tanvee. All these terms are the synonyms of Tasreef and are interchangeably used.
